dear visitor,

my name is ishan, and i study computer science at uiuc.

in june of 2027 i'm joining imc trading as a software engineering intern for the summer. before that, i spent 2026 at nvidia working on rapids, and since 2025 i've been a systems operations engineer at tandemn. earlier on there was a spin internship at ncsa in 2025, a software engineering internship at anb systems in 2024, and three years as a cels research intern at argonne national laboratory from 2022 to 2024.

what i actually care about is systems programming, performance engineering, and low-latency execution on linux. most of what i build ends up somewhere near that: a mariadb storage engine that writes iceberg tables to s3 (parquet_plugin), a matching engine and wire protocol for a mock exchange (the-final-exchange), a dynamic topic model over 2.2m arxiv abstracts (dlp_model), lecture transcription for people who have trouble hearing lectures (asr_system), and a vs code extension that resolves merge conflicts for you (mrgr). there's more at github, though the rest of it is mostly half-finished.

if any of that is interesting to you, or if you just want to argue about something, write to me at ibuyy@illinois.edu. i'm also on github, twitter, and linkedin. i answer almost everything.

best,
ishan buyyanapragada
